STUDY OF JOURNALISM.

ROBERT BELL SCHOLARSHIP. Regulations governing the award of •Robert Bell Scholarships” wore adopted, as follow, by the Canterbury College Board of Governors yesterday, on the recommendation of the Professorial Board and the College Committee. The scholarships were established in 1920 by ATr Robert Bell for tho promotion of the scientific study of journalism . 1. There shall bo three scholarships, each of the annual value of £SO. one of which shall be offered for award in each year. 2. Every candidate for the scholarship shall, before election, have passed the entrance scholarship examination of the University of New Zealand, and have obtained at least a. place in tho credit list, and. other things being equal, the scholarship shall be awarded to tho candidate who shall have obtained the I ugliest aggregate of marks in that examination. 3. Every scholar shall proceed at Canterbury College to the diploma in journalism or to a degree in arts or commerce in the University of New Zealand, but shall in any ease attend tho complete course of lectures in practical journalism at tho college. 4. The tenure of each scholarship shall bo for three years, terminable, however, at tho end of the first or of the second year if the Board of Governors. having received from the Professorial Board an unfavourable report on the conduct and progress of tho scholar, shall so determine. 5. Tf in any rear no award of a scholarship shall he made, the emoluments of that scholarship shall cither lie added to the capital of the fund, or held in reserve to provide a. further scholarship in the next or some subsequent year, as the Board of Governors may determine. 6. Every candidate for the scholarship shall give notice, of his candidature to the chairman of the Professorial Board not later than AT arch 1. 7. The total emoluments received by the scholar from scholarships, exhibitions. or bursaries shall not exceed £IOO per annum.
