THE SPRINGBOKS.
The Canterbury Rugby Union will have the support of all sporting bodies in its endeavour to arrange that a tost match against the South African representatives should be played here. Its proposal that a fourth test should be included in the team’s itinerary is a reasonable one. If there are to be no more than three tests one of the centres must be disappointed, and perhaps there are reasons why it should be Christchurch. A match between the Springboks and the South Island representative team would be better than nothing, but it would not bo anything like a test match. As the president of the Rugby Union remarked, it is suspiciously like “ a bit of hay ” thrown to this province. From a financial as well as a playing point of view a test match would give far more satisfactory results. Tt would draw spectators from the whole of Canterbury, and a substantial gate would be assured. The Rugby Union should persist in its attempt to secure a readjustment.
