Three first offenders were each fined os, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. Two statutory first offenders for a, siiniliar offence were each lined ss, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. an absconder. Mako Kaimoka, a South Sea Islander, pleaded guilty to absconuing from the Salvation Army Home. Inspector Hendry stated that accused had maried a Maoi’i, who was willing, and anxious, that accused should be permitted to return to his home with him. On defendant undertaking to remain with her husband, the case was adjourned for three months. AN ERRING HUSBAND. Robert Henry Edgeworth pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and being £4O in arrears under a maintenance order requiring him. to contribute 2t>s a week towards the support of his wife. On the -charge of drunkenness accused was convicted and discharged, and for the breach of the maintenance order he was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, no warrant to issue provided regular payments under the order were made. (Before Mr S. K. M’Cartliy. S.M.). ALLEGED NEGLECT. f anny Chesmir, of Prebbleton (Mr Hunter) proceeded against David M dure, farmer, of Fendalton (Mr Alpers), claiming £133 18a. Plaintiff stated that in April 1915 she leased to defendant a farm if over 40 acres at Prebbleton for five vears defendant undertaking to cultivate and manage the land in a proper manner. It vas alleged that the terms of the lease had not been observed in conse quence of which plaintiff claimed £4B paid for cutting and trimming fences erecting new portions of fences, cleaning ditches, etc.; £l2 15s for repairing underground pipes, etc. ; £7O for clean* mg seven acres of land from twitch including rebate in rent to be allowed to tenant, whilo the land was being clean ed at £lO per acre and £3 3s, cost of re. pairing six gates and replacing a pump alleged to have been broken bv defend ant, a total of £133 18s. The plaintiff’s case was heard some weeks ago, an adjournment being granted till to-day. Defendant gave evidence at to-day’s hearing to the effect that he had taken all reasonable precautions to keep the farm in order, and denying that he had xi-?gloried it. (Pro needing )
