Official quarters in London confirm the report of serious mutinies of Russian troops, who are combining with the workers to overthrow the. Soviet and establish a Democratic Republic. RED RUSSIA. ' (Received March 3, 9.45 a.m.) HELSINGFORS. March 2. The situation which is developing in Russia may possibly shortly lead to the overthrow of Red Rule. Fighting is proceeding in maj.iv parts. At Petrograd 30,000 strikers are opposing the military. Many have been killed and wounded on both sides. The military cadets, who are the most reliable of the Soviet supporters,. lost heavily. Workers and marines combined, and forced the cadets from the schools along the street, quickly overwhelming them. The survivors only obtained shelter when relieving Soviet troops arrived. The garrison, which hitherto had not participated in the fighting, handed over all their arms and ammunition to the rebels, whom the Kronstadt naval forces joined. Large numbers of ex-officers are leading the Moscow insurgents. Cossacks arc advancing in the Southern Volga districts, and. threaten io cut oft Caucasian communications. Georgia is mobilising all able-bodied Mahommedans to fight alongside Christians and defend the country. The (Moscow Soviet is attempting to pacify the workers, and has ordered substantial increases in food rations.
