SEED WHEAT.
DISTRIBUTION OF PURE STRAINS. [Per Press Association. 3 WELLINGTON, March 2. The Minister of Agriculture stated today that the Agriculture Department, in co-operation with the Canterbury S6ed-Gro\vers’ Association, has completed arrangements for handling and distributing a large amount of pure seed wheat during the coming season. 'i his seed has been grown and threshed under Government supervision and the grower is to bo paid a higher price than that to be fixed for milling wheat to compensate for the extra la lour involved in production. The main varieties on sale by the Department will be College Hunters, Tuscan and yelvet. These pure strains are the result of many years’ selection bv Lincoln Agricultural College, and in field trials have amply demonstrated superior yieding capacity
over ordinary commercial seed. Their ! substitution for the ordinary type of j patent bearing on the future of the New Zealand wheat industry. Particulars of prices and how application for supplies should be made will be announced at an early date.
