LACK OF APPRENTICES. ARCHITECTS CONCERNED. fPsjt Press Association. 1 NAPIER, February 23. The serious shortage of apprentices ill the building and allied trades was discussed by th© Architects’ Conference. Air J. Greig (Hawke's Bay) moved and Air "W. M. Page (Wellington) seconded: “That the council of the institute confer with the Builders’ Federation and other interested bodies on tbe apprentices’ question, with a view to conceited action.” Taking th© case of Napier Air Greig quoted figures to show that apprentices had decreased since 1911 from 10 to nil in the carpentering trade, two to one in tho painting trade, and 14 to nil in the plumbing trade An amendment by Mr T. H. Battle (Wanganui) and seconded bv Mr C. H. Roberts. (Southland). “That the council write to builders pointing out the necessity of inducing more apprentices to com© to the trade,” was lost, and Mr Greig’s motion was carried-
