The Hospital Committee reporting today that the wards wore about to bo put into use stated that the regulations for admission were:— <T) The wards are not to be available for persons suffering only from old age. • (2) Patients admitted shall be those suffering from chronic or incurable ailments, and who are—-or whose friends are—in such a position as to be unable to provide the necessary medical treatment and accommodation elsewhere. (3) The medical superintendent of the hospital shall recommend to the committee the cases suitable for admission, and the committee shall determine if they are to be admitted and what foes—if any—shall be paid by the patients or their friends. Air F. Horrell said that the Jubilee and Tuarangi homes were already handling chronic cases, and giving them more home life and better treatment than they would receive in the Chalmers AVards, and doing it for £6O a >eaXj as against £l4O. Devito Chalmers’s generosity ho thought that the ! Chalmers AVards should be used for general hospital purposes, and that if more room was wanted at the homes it should be provided. The chairman (Afr H. J. Otley) said that notice of motion would have to he given. Afr Horrell said that the hoard should effect a saving wherever possible. The Hen R. Moore said that the inmates of the old peoples’ homes were not the t-ame as those to he admitted to the Chalmers Wards.
