Mrs H. C. M. Wright (Stratford) is I staying at the United Service. Mrs Maurice Harper (Lake Heron) is in town. Mr and Mrs AVigram have gone south on a motoring tourMrs Vernon is staying at Longbeacli. Mrs Maitland Rich is ‘the guest of Mrs Hutton, Bangor.. Mr and Mrs P. Keddell hare taken a house in Roasall Street. Afiss Waldegrave (Palmerston North) is tho guest of Mrs Pyne. Mr and Mrs George Gilmour (Wellington) arrived, in Christchurch to-day, ana are staying at the Clarendon. Mr and Mrs Philip Bfown hare returned from the south, and are staying at Warner’s. Mrs Ferguson. Miss Howell and Miss O'Hara Smith have returned from I>unedin. Mr and Mrs \V. O. Campbell have gone into their house in Carlton Street, Kicc&rton. t Aire Macdonald andi Aliss Macdonald (Exieudalc) arrived in Christchurch yesterday, and are staying at Warner’s. Miss Agnes Scully arrived in Christchurch to-da v, and is staying at Warner’s. Mr and Mrs Weuley and Miss Wenlex (Napier) went south to-day after a stay in Christchurch. Mrs F, Doverell, Brown's Road. St Albany xvas hostess last week at a small tea given for her guest, Mrs Hution. England. The Christchurch Trained Nurses’ Association mot at the Cadena Tea-rooms, last evening, for the purpose of holding tlie annual meeting, but the formal • business had to ho unavoidably postponed. The evening was devoted to social entertainment, music, etc-, and those present had an enjoyable time. Among the vocalists was Nurse Kathleen Garvcn. Miss Hood presided. Unfortunately the weather was not favourable yesterday afternoon, and what was to have been a garden fete at Mrs Macdonald’s home in Bealey Avenue, turned out to bo an indoor affair. However there was quite a good attcndanco of those interested in the Creche and Kindergarten Association, and more particularly in the Little Citizens’ Kindergarten for which Miss Mary Macdonald is such an enthusiastic xvorker. Yesterday’s fete was given by Miss Macdonald, who was assisted considerably bv members of the committee of the Little Citizens’ Kindergarten. There were to have been several side shows and tennis competitions. but these were abandoned on account of the weather. Tho most important evqnt was the baby competitions for which there wore many entries. Mrs Pyne .judged the babies and lour prizes were awarded as follows: Under three months, Noel James; under six months, Lucy Mercer: over six months and under a year. George ■ Mitchell ; and over a year, Joyce Tooley. On tho wide verandah there was a well-stocked produce stall in charge of Mrs AVhetter and Mrs Eric Harper, the latter also having presented an iced cake for competition purposes. Tea was dispensed on the verandah ai\d in the billiard room. Amongst those present wero Miss Hull, the Kindergarten Supervisor, Miss Hoi-, land, headmistress of the Little OitiserN. Mr* Batchelor. Airs Ronald Macdonald. Mrs and Miss Gould,, Airs and Miss Pvne, Mrs Robbie, Airs E. Helmore. Airs Cooks and the Rev F. N. Taylor. Tlie opening night of n regular Monday night dance arranged for Spreydoii and Beckenham residents, was hold at tho Beckenham Hall on Monday last. Tho evening xvns very successful, and over a hundred residents of the district danced to excellent orchestral music. The ballroom bore, a very charming appearance, being tastefully dc'*orated in green and red fringe-like festoons, interspersed with Japanese hanging baskets of flowers. The walls and balcony were decorated with a plentiful mipnlv of greenery. During tho evening; Mr A. Man hi re”. Alayor of Spreydon, in a short speech complimented the committee on the happy thought of forming a dance and wished them every success in their new scheme of entertainment for the district.
