TRAMWAY BOARD.
The Tramway Board met vesterdav ; present Hon J. Barr. M.L.C. (chairman) and Messrs S. A* Staples, D. Sykes, J. Wood. A. S. Taylor, G. T. Booth and JJ. Pearce. Apologies were received For the absence of Messrs T. H. Davev and W. . Walter. The Works and Traffic Committee reported that in view of the large quantity of lace shingle that will be required for ballasting purposes during the next two or three years, it was giving consideration to some improved method of loading trucks in the.board's pit at Sockburn. Tfc was communicating with the City Council respecting substantial reduction in street watering by the council, in view of the agreement made when tho prices were fixed. Shopkeepers in Colombo Street- presented a petition. asking that cars from Papanui and Fendaltori should stop north of Armagh Street. Thev said that they found that since cars began to stop near Gloucester Street, their customers went into the city, and did not walk back to their shops. The petition was referred to the Works and Traffic Committee. The City Council wrote asking that the Bromley ’bus should be continued for a further three months. It was agreed to ask if the council consented to boar a share of ihe loss during Hie term mentionedThe Canterbury Progress League forwarded a statement by the Minister for I üblic Yl orks in regard to developing the Lake Coleridge scheme. The league thanked the board for its support of the demonstration at the lake. The letter was received. I lie. City Council wrote agroin g to niter kerbing and channelling in Boa lev Avenue. The Sumner Borough Con ncil was granted permission to run a four-inch pipe along the tramway ehibankment an amendment that the board’s engineer should report on the question beinir lost. ** The Canterbury Automobile Association wrote thanking the board for new overhead lights at the tram terminals, and for altering a stopping place in Colombo Street north.
