ST PATRICK’S SPORTS ASSOCIATION

BIG MEETING IN’ CHRISTCHURCH. On March 19 the St Patrick's athletic Sports Association will hold its annual sports meeting at Lancaster Parle. The full list of events appears in another column, and will make interesting reading to all athletes and followers of sport. The programme, which is the best vet submitted at any athletic gathering in Christchurch, Ih set out in three different sections, comprising amateur, rash and cycling events, hut the order in which they appear in this issue will not be observed on the day, the different events being arranged" so as to give competitors a chance to get over their exertions from one race before being called upon to coptest another. In this respect Uie programme lias b<?en well arranged- No efforts have been spared to make iho gathering equal to iiio best yet held in the Dominion, and the executive of the association has made certain of attracting the very best athletes by offering prizes and prize-money oi well over £490. Professionals and amateurs are equally well catered for, each race being well worth winning and the number of enthusiasts who hare donated valuable trophies shows what can be done by a body anxious to popularise the sport. The Sheffield Handicap is worth £56 altogether, and this race is sur* to provide the opportunity lor all the champion professional athletes to measure strides. Cyclists will be given a rare opportunity in competition for the Clincher Cup. valued at 20 guineas, and trophies and good money prizes. Amateur running has lately become very popular. and as it is probable that th.e Olympic runners, Davidson and Wilson, besides the Christchurch champion. Taylor, will compete, the racing looks like being the best seen in Christ* church for many a day. Athletes would be well advised to closely study the conditions as set out in our advertising columns, and to remember that entries close on Wednesday, March 2. with Mr J. M. Coffey, P.O.
