Mrs Maitland Rich is the guest of Mrs H. A. Knight, Racecourse Hill. Miss N. Lloyd (Wellington') is spending a holiday in Christchurch. Miss Townsend (Amberley) is in ’town. Mr and Mrs M’Cullin (Bendigo, Victoria) are staying at the Clarendon. Dr and Mrs Redman have returned to Blenheim after a stay in Christchurch. Major and Mrs Courtenay Mitchell, visitors to Christchurch from England, are staying at 'Warner’sMr and Mrs Martin Elgar (Wellington) went south to-day after a week spent in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. A. Miller (Hastings) who have been in Christchurch for some time, go north this evening. Mrs Vernon, who has been staying todth Mrs Wigram, goes to Longbeacli on Monday. Mrs W. M. Hamilton has been visiting her daughter, Mrs S. I. Fitch, Waimate Miss Nancv Robison (Nelson) is the guest of Mxs Millton, Carlton Mill Road. Miss Vera Hope has returned to Tiinaru after spending a few days in Christchurch. Miss Laura Tabart will leave Christchurch on Monday for Dunedin, .where she will stay with her sister; Mrs Elliston Or bell. Mr and Mrs John Fraser (Forest Vale, Invercargill) arrived in Christchurch to-day after a ten months’ trip abroad. They wore met by Mrs John Fraser, Fendalton. Quite a number of tennis parties liavo been held this week, and amongst the hostesses have been Mr« Ranald Macdonald, Mrs F. G. Gibson, Mrs C. Cooper, Mrs Andrew Anderson, Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Gresson. Mrs W. R. Don, Dominion president of W.O.T.U., who was a delegate from New Zealand to the world’s convention of that organisation, held in London, has returned to Christchurch. While in Great Britain Mrs Don addressed some of the largest meetings ever held there on behalf cf tho temperance cause. The Christchurch branch of tho fW omen’s Christian Temperance Union met on Wednesday, Mrs T. E. Taylor presiding. Mrs W. J. Williams and Miss W. H. Lovell-Smith were elected delegates to the coming convention. Miss Davis was appointed superintendent of the Cradle Roll Department. The following re.->olution was unanimously carried:—“That this union desires to express to the Hon G. A. Anderfron. Minister of Internal Affairs, its satisfaction at the appointment of Mrs A. R._ Atkinson upon the Board of Appeal in connection with the censorship of picture films.’' THE ART OF GIVING.
