SOLDIER SETTLEMENT.
[Fbk Press Association. 3 AUCKLAND. January 26. The suggested postponement of operations in connection with the soldiers’ settlement scheme, discussed in Wellington on Tuesday bv the Dominion Executive of the Farmers’ Union, was referred to by Mr Massey to-day. Ffe Maid be believed be lenew tho two farms referred to as having been purchased In the -most expensive district in New Zealand recently for probably £l5O an acre. If these were the same as the two he had in mind, the facts were that tke smaller of the two was bought lor £9O an acre, and the larger for £3O. Experience was that land purchases by the Government for settlement purposes had turned out to he very good bargains in almost every instance. With regard to the larger issue of postponing the scheme, Mr Massey said the countin' was pledged to it, and it ,raust go forward.
