Tlia semi-final of tb.e rink championship was played thi3 morning between Jury (Karangahake) and M’Whannell (Hataitai, Wellington). Tho green was rather heavy as result of the recent rain. Keen interest was taken in the game. After the thirteenth head Jury drew away, and on the twentieth was 24 to 10. The last head was not played. Neither team played quite up to standard. This afternoon Jury meets Rennie (Christchurch), who had a bye in the semi-finals. Jury has had no losses in post section play, and Rennie, to win the championship, will require to beat him twice. The pairs competition, commences at 9 a.m. to-morrow. The semi-final was played this morning between Young, Stonebanks, Roberts and l*t’ Whannel (Hataitai) and liiiton, Bell, Gallagher and Jury (Karangahalre). The game was interesting and close for twelve heads, when Karangab&ke scored a three, and a five in the sixteenth. This was the turning point, and Hataitai could do nothing right. The team played short bowls, while drives by tho skip ended in favour of tneir opponents. The third for Karangahafce played consistently good bowls right through, and was mainly responsible for the win. Jury improved towards the finish, a fid drew magnificent shots. With. five heads to go Karancrahake had a- lead of fourteen uoints. Hataitai’s position .was hopeless, and they were defeated by 21 to 10. Karan pah ake are unbeaten in post section plav. and have to be beaten twice by Christchurch in the final to lose the championship. The final is being played this afternoon. The Christchurch team are:—Lewis, Dickson Macdougall and . Rennie. There is beautifully sunny weather, and the green is in trood condition. Tt is -on the heavy side, but i 3 getting keener. A large number of spectators are watching the games.
