ATTEMPT TO SET FIRE TO OIL DEPOT. By Telegraph— Trees Asßociatibn— Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, January 15. Three constables frustrated a carefully planned attempt, to set fir© to the Vacuiftn Oil Company’s depot at Wandsworth, in which were sixty thousand barrels, containing 2,500.000 gallons of oil*Three men were seen loitering at midnight on Friday in the vicinity of the depot. When challenged they fired several shots with revolvers, but did not injure tlic- police. A dozen other men had scaled the wall of the depot by means of a rope ladder. These ran out on hearing the shots. The police pursued but all escaped, except Wilfred Kenney, a clerk, who was charged with attempted nnmler and arson. The police found in the depot a large quantity of cotton waste, ready for setting alight. Oil was also leaking from a dozen barrels, in which holes had been pierced. ft is believed that Sinn l r ei tiers were responsible.
