In connection with tho sentence of a month's imprisonment passed on a military ex-officer, or gang leader, on a charge of begging in the West End, an investigation disclosed that pensioned ox-ofiicers who had been organ-grinding in the West End wero living in luxuiry at hotels, and that they were earning tip to £2O weekly. Tt is not unusual to see queues of women in Regent Street waiting to drop in coins. The women were generally masked. The scandd had bcoome so glaring that the Exofficers-* Association instituted the pro tuition with a view to checking it.
