MISS A. HENDERSON'S RETURN.
Miss Alice Henderson, who has been a missionary in Tndia. for near tv twenty-five years, returned to Christchurch on Saturday on twelve months’ leave of absence. .Miss Henderson is staving with her sister Mrs Janies M r Conibs at Clifton. She will rest for three months. and i hen nude: take deputation work in New Zealand on Lehall of the Presbyterian Church missions. Miss Henderson has not bad a holiday for ten years, owing to the withdrawal of doctors and padres for the war Her present* furlough of twelve months, also, will be six months shorter than the ordinary furlough of eighteen months, given every six years ; but she may have to go “home” to India within twelve short-handed. Miss Henderson has no intention of retiring from missionary work. She desires to live out her life in Tndia, which claims her w*hole attention. .Aliss Henderson’s work lay in Madras for sixteen years among women ami girls but for the last nine years she has been doing hard pioneering work in the Punjab, organising girls’ schools and teaching newlybaptised lads to read and write, so that they may carry on teaching in their own villages. For three years she has also been doing evangelising work in the villages, and for the last year, in addition to her mission work, she has had the onerous duty of taking charge of two leper asylums. Nevertheless she has returned to Christchurch in fairly good health, but in need of a thorough rest.
