RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
[Per Press Association-.] NEW PLYMOUTH. January 9. The- Hon J. G. Coates, Minister of Public Works, was in New Plymouth on Saturday, and left for Mokau to-day £n rout© to Te Kuiti and Auckland. He received deputations. 'The Chamber of Commerce made a strong plea for resumption of work at the Taranaki end of the tetratford main trunk railway, but the Minister definitely stood to his previous decision to concentrate on the most important main lines, which in his view are the northern lines. He denied that Auckland was favoured, instancing: the discontinuance of a rail way in his own and Mr Mander’s electorate.
