FOR THE CHILDREN.

NANCY’S PARTY. Nancy gave a party. Mother let her manage it all by herself. It was such fun. .There was Phyllis to help, of course, and Jack handed round ices and tea and chocolate biscuits, and behaved very well on tho whole. - Dennis and Eric and Hnmfrey were there, and Janet and Freda too, and, then there were Joyce and Cynthia and Edith; so that, you see, there were plenty or guests. Tho best part of it all was the conceit. Phyllis played- the piano, Dennis and Janet ami Freda sang, and Freda played tho" concertina- as well. Eric blew a whistle, and Hnmfrey conducted; ho had a fiddle and pretended to play a little now and then, but of course ho didn't really. And you never heard such a noise as they all made. ( Nancy sat on the sofa and bad ices. s>hc said she thought that was much the best part of it. After the concert was oyer they had games of all kinds and then fireworks in the garden, and some of the guests wero allowed to Jet off a. fetv fireworks that didn't “pop ” very lunch. Altogether it was a great success. Nancy says she shall hare a party every week. I hope she will ask me, don’t you ? ELSIE’S ADVENTURE. Elsie was a little girl who lived far away among the woods in America; them were very few people living there, and- the houses were a long wav from each other. Ouo afternoon, as Elsie was coming bank from a visit to her little friend! Maggie, she lost her way in the wood, and wandered about for a long time trying to find the path.
