ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Springs-Ellcß. mere Ldectno Power Board was hold : at Leeston OU Monday; present—Messtn J, (chairman), H. Noave, ■ it. T. MMillan, J. C. Free,. J. W. Kimo, C. Wolfo and L. H. KoweU, Messrs J. R. Templiu (consulting engineer to th« board). Ales Webster (acting-secretary) and P. R. Climio (organiser to the Canterbury Progress League) were also present. The Hon Sir Heaton Rhodes, in answer to the board b inquiry, advised that the Minister of I übho Works would bo in Christchurch at. too cud of iT&hutiry. The secretary of the Farmers’ Union, Dunoanae], advised that ft oar would bo avail atflo as soon as Mr Templin could spare time to maks an. inspection of tho electrical requiremerits of the district. Several oilers of eitos for yard and offices were received, and it was agreed that theso should bo inspected by tho Works Committee. A petition was received ■ from a number of Grcenpark residents soliciting tho’board's co•operation in securing for that portion of tho district the benefits of an electrical tupply. Mr Free said that he had heard a good deal of opposition to the uao of bluegum polea by the board. Mr M’Millan eaid he thought some eery good poles could be obtained from the North Rskaia River Board’s plantations. Theso trees were a considerable age. Australian hardwood poles would cost £3 Ss landed in Lyttelton. Silver pine polos could bo ol>tained at Ktimnra, but tho cost of bringing them over \voui4 bo very high. It was decided to approach the North Rskail River Board and to inspect tho trees on tho board’s reserves.
