MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
LYTTELTON. (Before Mr W. T. Lester, J.P., and Mr F. Knights, J.P.) Matfc Barnes was charged with unlawfully assaulting Mervyu Trevor Shaw, ‘peggv ” on the Maori. The case for plaintiff was that he had lent tho accused os, and ho had some words with him, accused staling that it was only 2s 6cl. After further argument accused lost his temper and hit the hoy a heavy blow on the .face. Accused pleaded guilty, corroborating the evidence, and stated bis willingness to pay expenses. The police stated that both parties wore on good terms this isoEHing, although a warrant for arrest had been issued last night. Tho Bench staled that accused should not have taken the law in his own hands and fined him ss.
