MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
♦ CHRISTCHURCH. TO-DAY'S CASES. Mr S. E. M’Carthy, S.M., presided at to-dny’s sitting of the Christchurch' Magistrate’s Court. DRUNKENNESS. Two male and .one female first offenders wore convicted of drunkenness, and fined os each. Arthur Francis Weston was charged with having been drunk whilst in charge of a horse and cart in Colombo Street. He pleaded guilty, and was fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment. William Cushion pleaded guilty to drunkenness, and to a breach of his prohibition order. Ho had been to lloto lion three times previously. lie was connoted and discharged for drunkenness, and hned £2 for the other offence, in default seven days’ imprisonment. A COSTLY ASSAULT. Ernest Edward Columbus pleaded guilty to assaulting .Jantes.’T. Clark on Saturday evening, declaring that he had had a few drinks in him and could not remember what happened. He was convicted and fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment. A MISSING- CYCLE. Francis James M’Bratney was charged (1) with stealing at Christchurch on December 4 a cycle valued at £ls, tho property of W. J. Caldor, and (2) with resisting a constable whilst in tho execution of his duty. Accused asked for a remand on tho first charge, in order to consult a lawyer, and elected to bo dealt with by the Supremo Court. He pleaded guilty to the second offence and was fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment. On the first charge ho was remanded to Friday, bail being allowed self in £SO. and two sureties of £35 each. CIVIL SITTINGS. RESERVED JUDGMENT. Mr M’Carthy gave his reserved judgment in the case Walter Ahlfeld v. Charles Healey, wherein the former claimed possession of a tenement, 52, llolleston Street, and rental from July 31 to November 2D. 1920. Plaintiff purchased the house from A. Dey, ami the question for decision was whether plaintiff could give a notice to quit before ho was entitled to possession, and before ho had acquired tho legal title. Tho Magistrate decided that as thq notice to quit Had been also endorsed by Dey»it was in order, and an order for possession by February 2 next was made in plaintiff’s favour, with costs. UNDEFENDED CASES.

TENEMENT OASES. Thomas Mayo (Mr Macdongal!) proceeded against S. M. Browne (Mr Thomas) for possession of tenement, 26, King Street, Sydenham, and £lO general damages for wrongful detention. Derision was reserved. J. T. Nash (Air Cnthberi) proceeded against Mrs Tolputt (Mr Sargent) for possession of tenement. Falsgravo Street. Plaintiff said that he offered to let the defendant share the house, hut she declined as she kept lie was paying 13s Gd weekly for one room, and also £L weekly in payment for Hie house in Falsgravo Street. Ho had a wife and two children. Owing to the sudden illness of the defendant tho hearing was adjourned for a week.
LYTTELTON. (JJolun; Mr I'. G. Norton, J.P.) William Kidd, a. member of tho crew of tiro Somerset, ivns charged with being drunk and disorderly and was convicted and lined os. KAIAPO!, (Before Mr V. G. Bay. H. Boorc. for riding a moUw-bicvclo without a light, was lined IDs and cost*. James Baton, charged with driving a motor-car at a greater speed than ten miles an hour, was lined 40s and costs.
