THE LABOUR LEADER.
/ 10 THE SDIIOa. Sir, —For nearly fifty years I have been a working man, and will probably be so to the end of tire chapter. Thousands of us toilers bitterly regret the day when Mr Henry Holland was elected leader of the LaboOr Party. How it came about that the vitriolic Mr Holland was selected as lender of the workers, instead of Mr James M’Combs, is incomprehensible. The member for Lyttelton possesses qualifications to which the member for Buller is an entire stranger, and his unquestioned sincerity in the cause commands the respect of political opponents. Mr Holland's coarse attack on the Rev Howard Elliott on Thursday will utterly defeat his object, and will divert a tremendous amount of voting power into other channels to the detriment of the genuine aspirations of Labour. It may bo said with absolute certainty that on this important marriage question Mr Holland holds no brief for the Protestant workers of New Zealand, and his utterances will be repudiated by all those who appreciate the courtesies incidental to political controversy. —i am, etc., ARQ-US.
