GALLIPOLI STORY.

GENERAL HAMILTON'S MSS. FOR TURNBULL LIBRARY. [Run Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October -29. Observing some weeks ago a cabled statement that Sir lan Hamilton had : presented a portion of tho manuscript of his Gallipoli diary to the Mitchell Library. Sydney, tho Hon W. H. Triggs M.L.C.j wrote to General Hamilton asking if be ' would confer a I similar favour on tho Turnbull Library, | Wellington. General Hamilton has now | sent the original draft of a large por- | tion of his siumnd dispatch on the 'Gallipoli campaign, • together with an j accompanying letter, in which ho i says:— « “Nowadays when so much must be done by shorthand and typing it is by no' means easy to meet your wish. However I have dug out a bit of my [/second dispatch, which might be some I day interesting to a historical book* ! worm. The way these things were j done was: I first of all dictated the ' story, then corrected the typed sheets. The whole of the portion of the MSS ; I send you was done at. Gallipoli, and i all marks, cuttings out and writing are by ray own hand.” Mr Triggs has handed tffe manuscript to the Minister of Internal i Affairs, with the request that it should bo placed in the- Turnbull Library, < adding, “ I am 'sure you will agree with mo that Sir Tim Hamilton has i made a most generous and valuable contribution to the - store of original records in which the Turnbull .Library already is so rich..' 1
