The ferry wharf at Lyttelton presented a rather unusual appearance yesterday morning, between nine and eleven 0 clock. Many of the watersiders who could not get employment owing to the shortage of railway trucks took up positions opposite Nos. 2 and 3 hatches of the Wahine, and watched with keen interest the discharging of some thirtyseven gallopers for the Riccarton races. As the names of the more prominent horses became known their prospects in coming races were discussed with considerable enthusiasm.
