' IPeom Our CoRREsroxDEXT.] WELLINGTON, October 27. following up a general statement he had made during the discussion, on the Amour meat export license Mr Hoi.and, in the course of a question to the Minister of Agriculture, asked that steps should lie taken to have a special inspection in London of the cargo of a steamer which left Wellington for England a few weeks ago. He alleged that in portion of a cargo of prime cow beef there was hardly one quarter not infested with fungus and black spot. Some were rat eaten and held rat nests. Ho also alleged that a. portion of a cargo now loading in Wellington was infested with black spot and fungus, that some carcases were badly gnawed by rats, and that dead rats were found in carcases. He further alleged that meat affected to a mild extent by tubemilosis was allowed to be used ,in canning on the assumption that a high temperature killed the disease germs. If the Government would’ appoint a commission of inquiry he : would furnish details of the charges. The Hon W. Nosworthv declared that there was no need for a Royal Commission. If he was given details of the charges he would be quite prepared to have a thorough investigation made into the accuracy or otherwise of the charges.
