VETERANS BEAT NEW BRIGHTON. The Veterans’ Club sent a team to New Brighton on Saturday and defeated tho seaside club by one run, after an exciting finish. New Brighton batted first and made 75 (Mathias 11, Hayea 41, Smith U M’Creo 6 not out). Veterans scored 76 (Cook 29, Laurence 10 not out). Pegg, Cook and Laurence, for Veterans, and Hayes, M’Crco and Jarvis, for New Brighton, bowled best. NORTH CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The junior competition in connection with the North Canterbury Association was commenced on Saturday five teams having entered. Rangiora played Oust, at Gust, and were defeated by 16 runs. The scores wore: —Gust 75 (Patterson 19, Dixon 17); Rangier 59 (Plain 1G). Ambcrlcy defeated Swannanoa by three runs. Scores:— Amberlcy. 57 (Adams 24 not out); Swannanoa, 54 (J. Verrall 17, G. Begg 13). Rhodes and Male, for the winners, and Henderson and Winter, for tho losers were the most successful bowlers. The Rangiora senior tcrim played Eyreton at Eyreton, and were defeated by 23 runs on tho first innings. Tho scores were:—Eyreton, 73 (Patterson 34, Cherry 11); Rangiora, 50 (Moore 17, Cockroft 16 not out, Stanton 10). For tho winners, Bennett look five wickets for 21 and Saunders three for 27. For tho losers, Lockhart took five for 19, Hanna two for 13. Cockroft two .for 3 and Mehrtcns one for 12. COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS v. SUNNYSIDE. Commercial Travellers’ and Sunnysido teams met un Saturday, tho game resulting in a draw. Scores;— Commercial Travellers, 167 (J. Hiucksman retired 71, H. Throp 36); Sunnysido, 74 for seven wickets (Hibbard 2S Porter 23 not out). ' ’
