The annual display to mark the cloec of the gymnasium season will be held at the Y.M.C.A. this evening, when ,i \aried programme of gymnastics and recreational games will bo gone through. News has been received in Wellington to-day of the death at Plymouth. ,England, last Friday, of Mr 'll. M. Simpson, formerly general manager of the Assurance Company, aged seventyseven. The Railway Appeal Board did not sit to-day, the Department’s advocate, Mr J. Mason, having been called to Wellington. The board will probably resume to-morrow in the old Provincial Council Chambers. “The balance-sheet la a matter for congratulation,” said Mr E. J. Tavler, president of the Ascot Lawn Tennis Club, at the annual meeting on Saturday night. “For a club with a membership of thirty-seven, the raising of L 94 during the year by subscription and other means" is simply wonderful Ihe club’s credit balance now stands at £lO3 13s Id.” The Pioneer Sports Club held the opening run of the season yesterday, with a visit to Motukarara. The return to Christchurch was achieved by 5 p.m.
