SUGAR SUPPLIES.
STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAN OF BOARD OF TRADE.' Regarding supplies of sugar for tho South Island, Mr W. Q. M ! Donald, chairman of the Board of Trade, stated on Saturday that the Rakanoa, at present discharging at Lyttelton, has tho following cargo of sugar;—

■••VHWJ » I KJ*m yiy Of raw and refined sugar the IVanaka 'ri kriug for Christchurch 310 tons, the total supplies by both vessels are: —1202 tons of raw and 1120 tons of refined sugar; or a grand total of 2322 tons.,. This represents probably about six weeks’ supply. ‘‘The raw sugar,” Mr iM’Donald saiu, “is almost pure sugar, and is quite suitable in every respect for 1 domestic consumption, and will bo supplied for that purpose. Some industries cannot, without further treatment, use raw sugar, and it is necessary that in order to keep them going they should be supplied with refined sugar. Till wo have made up the quota of refined sugar that has been allocated to industries generally, the domestic trade must use the specially selected raw sugar.”
