BUSINESS OF THE HOUSE.
AUSTRALIAN COAL,
tOTALISATOR PERMITS,
(Special,to the “Star.”) .WELLINGTON. October 9.k The Prime minister stated to a reporter that an officer of the Kailway Department had completed the purchase of 70,0U0 tons of Australian coal, to winch the Prune minister of Australia, had assented. ■■'This,” said Air Massey. “ is in addition to the purchase of ?.■ [•mailer quantity which was previously made.” There seems to have boon some difficulty in getting the deal through on account of interference by interested parties, and it is quite evident that the transaction could nob have been completed without the influence of Iho Australian Prime Minister. No difficulty is anticipated in bringing the coal over. The B-ail-i'ny Department will have the first claim upon supplies, but it does not iollow that nil will be reserved for the Department. The Prime Minister has agreed to give Mr Hunter an opportunity on Monday evening of moving tho second reading of his Gaming Amendment Bill to increase the number of racing permits available for country elubs. It is thought, unlikely that the Bill will pass, as many members oppose an increase in permits until there is are-allocation of those now granted. Some opponents also will adopt all means to delay the passage of the Bill.
