Messrs J. Bitchener. J. M’Combe, E. J. Howard and Dr Thacker, Al.P.’s, were passengers from the north to-day. Mr Justice Stringer and the Hons J. Barr and G. J. Smith arrived from tho north this morning. Mr W. H. Oheesman has been appointed Acting Vice-Consul of Sweden to Christchurch. • Air C. J. Cooper has been appointed Vice-Consul of the Netherlands to Christchurch.' The Hon D. ,T. Fleming,. M.L.C., Hon C._A. C. Hardy, M.L.C., and Mi’ John Bitchener, ALP,, were passengers by the ferry and by the express south this morning. Mr. W. Murray, who recently retired on superannuation from the position ,{ Gvernmont Valuer in Christchurch, is suffering frm illness, and has been in the hospital-for several . weeks. Air W. G. Al.acDonald, chairman of the Board of Trade, arrived from Wellington this morning. To-day he conferred with wholesale and retail merchants in regard to the sugar distribution scheme- ■ His Excellency the Governor-General (Lord Jellicoe) has made the following appointr-tents to his staff Captain Arthur Randolph Wormclcy Curtis, M.C. (11th Hussars), to be Private Secretary; Albert Cecil Day, Esq., C.8.E., to he Official Secretary; Captain Pierrepont Rodney Miller Alundy, D.5.0., M.C. (South Wales Borderers), to be Aide-de-Camp; Lieutenant Robert Gordon Southey, M.C. (Royal Field Artillery), to bo Aide-de-Camp.
