The tender of Mosers Smith Bros., for new workshops at the. Ashburton. Technical School, at a cost of £4232, was accepted at a meeting of the Education Board .yesterday.

On behalf of the Broken Hill strikers a further appeal was made from the Band Rotunda in Victoria Square last night. The speakers were Messrs J. B. Williams, F. R. Cooke, L. Glover and H. T. Armstrong. Funds were collected for tho strikers.

Loud laughter greeted the reading yesterday of an extract from a letter to the Canterbury Education Board, when a lecturer, proposing to give an entertainment, assumed that “the Christchurch municipal authorities would surely grant the free use of the town hall.”
The arranging of a junior representative cricket match between Wellington and Christchurch was urged by Mr C. S. Thompson at yesterday’s meeting of the general committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association, hut by a narrow majority it was decided to hold the matter over until the season's programme was more definite.
A very enjoyable and successful social gathering was held at the Oadena Tea Rooms, on Wednesday evening, by the members of tho Wholesale Warehouse Clerks’ Society. This is the first social evening held by the .society since its registration a few months ago. The members and friends sat down to a dinner, and afterwards a short toast list Was gone through. Mr F. M’Kenzis (president of the soejety) presided over tho gathering. A programme of dances was .then gone through, musio being provided by Sutherland's orchestra.

That football at Lancaster Parle should cease each year on tbo second Saturday in September was the opinion arrived at by the general committee o. the Canterbury Cricket Association yesterday; and 'it was decided to ask the Lancaster Park Board of Control that this should bo arranged. It was stated by Mr C. S. Thompson, who brought the matter up> that the football season at the park was at present too late, as it did not give cricketers opportunity to get a good start.

Relative to the proposed tour of ail English cricket team in the Do- { TUa,oa . .a letter from the New Zealand Cricket Council was received at jesterday’s meeting of the general committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association, asking that two-thirds of tho Relation's guarantee for the tour should ho available for remittance at twenty-four hours’ notice, as it was necessary to cable fares to London. The chairman of the committee (Mr W, kimpson) said that the guarantee would bo available whenever it was wanted. The Canterbury Progress League wrote requesting a renewal of the OanEducation Board’s subscription of £lO. It is desired that the Boys’ League Cricket Association shcfald commence play on October 23, it was stated at yesterday s meeting of the general committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association. Members of the committee pointed out that there were matters concerning grounds and finance which required adjustment, it being stated that the grass was very long on tho giounds and that, there ,wcro outstanding accounts_ for £6O or £7O. It was agreed that it would be unfair to make any decision until Messrs Redpath and Barrett could bo present, and it was decided to hold the mutter over in the meantime.
