SUMNER BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho regular meeting of the Sumner Borough Council was held last night, the Deputy-Mayor, Councillor T. E. Whitfield, presiding; present—Councillors T. Dryburgh, H. C. S. Jamieson, W. G. Black, H. J. Yates, C, M. Roswell, C. Beniamin, and Gill. ' The Standing Committee reported that tho increase in the manufacture of gas totalled 101,090 cubic feet. The purifiers had received a thorough cleaning. Tho gas requirements for Redclifis were being obtained. Arrangements had been made with the Public Works Department for a key for the Woolston power house so that tho circuit breaker could be closed by the lighting manager when necessary. The Town Clerk had been instructed to arrange an interview with the Post and Telegraph Engineer regarding tine at Mount Pleasant. It recommended renovations at thg gas manager’s house. The water pumped at Redclifis had been 3,630,000 gallons, and at* Shag Hock 815,000 gallons. In reply to a letter from Mr 11. Hobday it was decided to ask him to supply a copy of the agreement relating to the water supply. Tho report was adopted. The borough engineer reported upon the proposed sites for the new reservoirs,, and recommended that two bo constructed instead of one. Tho report was adopted. A long discussion look place regarding tho request of Mr Elridge for o supply of Tight. Councillor Gilt, seconded by Councillor Black, moved that it be granted. On tho casting vote of the acting-Mayor the motion was lost, and the borough by-law upheld. On the motion of Councillor Yates, seconded hy Councillor Roswell, the borough by-law was referred to the Standing Committee. The sub-committee on beach improvements recommended that in the future the annual ffala be held in the interests of the Beaoh Improvement Fund. This section of the leport was adopted by the council. On the motion of Councillor Black it was decided to get the lighting manager’s report ujxm erecting a slot machine for the supply of water and gas to tho holiday-making public.
