SMALLPOX.
CASES NEAR ASHBURTON, ALL PATIENTS DOING WELL Five cases of smallpox have been reported from Huntingdon, a small country settlement near Ashburton. l>r lolford, District Health Officer, to vvliom the cases wore notified, visited the place, and after ■making inquiries, had the patients isolated and sent to the infectious diseases ward of the Ashburton Hospital, whore they are being attended to according to the latest methods. Three of the patients are children who attended the H antingdon School. Two persons who suffered from the disease at Huntingdon havo recovered. Dr Telford reported to-day that all the other patients were getting on well. The type is a mild ono. There arc some forty contacts, mostly pupils at the school, hut no tresh cases havo been reported since Tuesday. It is believed that the infection has been traced to an outbreak of the disease in Invercargill.
