TO MAKE CANDLES.
1. Have ready some mutton fat ready melted. Then prepare the candle moulds. Double the candle cotton (which can be obtained from almost all grocers'), and cut it about Sin longer than the candle mould. Twist it at the point and drop it into the mould. Have a strong round stick to thread through the loops at the other end of the cotton. Then tie a single knot in the cotton at the bottom to prevent the fat from running out of the niouls, lour the fat in when it is lukewarm, ind set aside till perfectly cold. Score the candle is drawn out the single ■.not which is tied at the end of the '■otton must be cut off- 2. To one!lnrd of beef fat allow two-thirds of mutton tallow. If the candles are ■emured for summfer use boil the tallow gently \vitli a little beeswax one pr two ’ours a day for two days- , On, the bird dav put if on in water containing Uh of alum and 11b of saltpetre for every_ 301b of tallow. Simmer it and ■ rim it, then leave it to get cold. When ■old it can be removed off the water and melted for use. Tallow thus Seated makes good hard whit© candles No. 16 cotton yarn is a good size for the wick cotton. When making eight eand’es to a pound use about 40-thread and for six candles to the pound about •)U-thread. Inoselv twisted, together. It is a 'good plan to pour a small cupful m very hot water- over the candles in , iu°uld before pulling them out of the mould.
