The Prime Minister gave the satisfao ,tor.v information t* the House to-day that there had been a good increase in the coal output in New Zealand clurinr the last few days. As for the shortage generally the I{,„lwav department had distributed about 30.000. tons to. gas- | works and local bodies, and sometimes to freezing,works, "but." ho added, , we cannot do that any more, as our ■ reserves are so nmall now that not attempt to assist others." He- had 'received a cable from the Federal : Premier stating that instructions had been I issued that in loading ships with- coal, for export, New Zealand was to.'-have first preference over .all other overseas ships, but Australia, must come first.
