GUN SHOOTING.

NORTH CANTERBURY CLUB,

The Korth Canterbury Gun Club’s annual sparrow shooting championship took placo on Saturday. The match was a.t twelve birds, shooting from the '2O-yard mark. The winner received a gold medal presented by (he club, end cash. There wore seventeen competitors. W. I'cid shot all his birds ami took first prize. J. Skilling and P. (Johns killed eleven birds each and divided second and third money. Two sweeps were afterwards shot off. The first, of seven' birds, wan won by J, Hiokenboldom (20yds), who killed all his birds with the first barrel. ,T. Skilling (21yds), A. Kerr (19yds), C. Hickenbottom (19yds), F. I’nscco (20yds) and G. Groig (19yds) each shot sin birds and divided second and third money. The final shoot was a first miss out. A. Kerr (l?yd.-) and 0. Hickenbottom (19yds) each shot five birds and divided the stakes ftP.RIXGSTOX CLUE. On Saturday, ,v, Mr Powell’s paddock, Springuton, the annual vortvst {or the Holmes Cup took place. The cup was won by J. Everest (Springston), after a keen contest. There were twenty-six competitors, and the conditions were, sixteen, birds, handicap distances, Boyds boundary; kills with first barrel, 3 points; second barrel. 2 points. The cup was given by Mr G. S. Holmes (pro" aident of the club), and will become the property of the first member to win it twice in succession or three times at intervals. The following were the six leading scores;—-J. Everest (03ydH, -15 points; I). Hammond (23yds), i'i poinis; X. Patterson (24yds)', Tt point.’,; C. Truscott (2-iydii), 41 points; 1:'. Alexander (Tlvds), 42 points; H. Rickerby (iMyds), 42 points. In the shoot off between Everest and Hammond, the former won on the fifth round. Hammond got his bird, but used the second barrel. An optional sweep was divided between Hammond, IV. Patteriion and C. Tnncott. A further sweep wa-s divided on the seventh round between J. 0. S. Holmes, .1. Everest, P. Prampton and F, Alexander.
