MR F. R. COOKE RETURNED. Mr F. E. Cooke, tlie official Labour candidate. has been elected to fill the vacancy on tho Christchurch City Council, caused by the residuation of Mr L. Peck, one of the councillors representing the Sydenham Ward. The poll took place yesterday when 1448 rotes mere recorded, about half the number cast in the ward at the last full council election. He felt certain that, at the next ordinary election the Labour Party would secure a clear majority, and that it. would be able to fight those people on the council who were working to making Christchurch worse.
