Mr V. G. Hay, S.M., presided at to-day’s sitting of the Ghristclmrch •Magistrate’s Court. CYCLE THEFTS. Robert Michael Gray, a youth, was charged with stealing a cycle, valued at £lO los, the property of Lawrence >M. Blyth, at Christchurch on June 17, and also with stealing another gent's cycle, the property of some person unknown, on June 22. He pleaded guilty to 1 both charges, and elected to be dealt with summarily. The Chief-Detective said that it was the accused's first offence. The cycles had not been sold. ihe Magistrate said that he did not care to send a man. to gaol for a first offence. Accused-would be admitted on probation for twelve months. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. James Joseph M. Arnold (Mr Hobau), residing at Winchester Street, Fendulton, pleaded guilty to two charges of using obscene language, on June Li and 19. Mr Day said that there was far too much bud language used. Accused would he tinea £5, in default one month’s imprisonment, on the first, charge, ami convicted ami discharged on the other. TRAM CONDUCTOR ASSAULTED. George Mcnzics, Retreat Hoad. Avonside. pleaded guilty to using insulting language at Dallington on June 4, amt also to assaulting a ■ tram conductor named Edwards. Ho declared that ho could not remember what had occurred and would nob dispute the charges. Sub-Inspector Dew said that the defendant was under the influence of liquor when the dispute with the conductor arose For the insulting language, Mcnzies was convicted and discharged, and for the assault he was lined -Ids, without costs. WINDOW SMASHING. , William Wood, labourer, who did not appear, was convicted of wilful mischief, in smashing a window, valued at £4 (is, at Templeton, on June 1, am! was ordered to pay the amount of the damage. CRUELTY TO HORSE. Stanley Simpson, a youth aged seventeen years, residing at Mot-ukarara, was proceeded against by Inspector White, of the S.I’.C.A., for cruelty, to a horse. He pleaded guilty. Inspector While said that the accused on June 7 was driving a creamery cart from Teddinglon to Tai Tapu',' and the horse had unprotected wounds on both suoulders. Tho lad’s employer had been absent for three weeks, and knew nothing about the horse’s condition. There had been many complaints about the treatment of horses pulling these creamery carts. Accused was convicted and ordered to pay 7s fid costs. The Magistrate warned him to be more careful in future. COW OBJECTS TO PIGS. Ernest J. Mills was proceeded against for alleged cruelty to a cow at iticcarron on June 10.
