HORSES’ MEMORIAL FUND.
Tiie third annual report of the New Zealand Nurses’ Memorial Fund states that a.t_ the close of the second year the capital of tin? fund stood at'the sum of ,-£5772_, an incroa.se of about £7-50 during that year. At the cloro of the part year it held invested in New Zealand "War Loan the sum of £9250 and cash in hand £2B3—a'total of £9533. showing an increase- in capital of £3761 coring the year; while relief bad been granted to tho amount of £374, including grants from the Ferriman fund. Hie Trained Nurses 1 Association remitted no less than £1561, of which £IOOO was from Auckland and £463 from Ashburton. Memorial services were hold in many of the towns in the Dominion in October lust, the offertories at which realised £275 in aid of the fund. A sum of £3OO was very generously handed to the fund iiy Mrs if. Fcrriniau, of Ashburton, in memory of her sun Cordon, who lost his life in the war. By Mrs For ri man's wish Ibis sum was specially devoted to thu 'relief of nurses who hbd seen service in the war, and a. groat part ot it has been so applied. There are now six nurses receiving regular annuities; two who were in receipt of allowances have died, and one, having recovered her health, no longer needs assistance. Others have been granted sums varying in amount to help them tide, over temporary needs. The capital now in band producing an income approximating £450 per annum, will • enable the fund to extend its good work, and it is learned that the executors of the late Mr M’Kay;, of Wellington, have allocated to this fund, from ids estate, a, sum expected to realise about £7005 or £B3OO. but this generous and welcome legacy lias not yot come to hand. The committee, may fairly claim that thank? to the liberality of 'the people of Now Zealand, the fund has now been placed on a, thoroughly firm fooling, and has a. very useful, if unobtrusive, career open tail in the future. The many letters of grateful acknowledgment which have been received by the committee show conclusively that" the aelief granted has nub only been sorely needed, hut, thoroughly appreciated hy the recipients.
