. A - Aitkcn left for the south by the first express this morning. Miss Louise Mack left this morning on a lecturing tour of the West Coast Mr G. S. Howard, at present a. representative of Timaru on the Education Board, but who has now como to live in Christchurch, has been nominated as a representative of tho urban area at the coming election of members of tho board. Tho Board of Governors of Canterbury College yesterday agreed to a proposal by the Museum and Librarv Committee "that tho title of Professor R. J. Scott should bo changed from “ Professor-in-chargc of tho School of Engineering” to “Professor of Engineering and Director of tho School of Engineering.’,’ At last evening’s meeting of the Woolston Borough Council it was agreed to nominate the Hon J. Barr as representative for the district on the Technical College Board. Several councillors protested against there being but one representative for Woolston, fcjprevtlou. New Brighton and Sumner Boroughs and tho Christchurch Drainage Board. At a reunion of officers of tho Ist Canterbury Regiment, Captain F. U. Bushell, who is leaving Christchurch to take up an important position iu the North Island, was presented by Liou-tenant-Colonel J. Murphy, on behalf of his brother-officers, with a handsome travelling bag, suitably inscribed. Colonel Murphy referred to tho good work done by Captain Bushell. both ae a Territorial and as a citizen. Captain Bushell suitably responded. Tho funeral took place yesterday, at Lyttelton, of an old, identity, Mr George Vollaus, who passed away on Sunday at the residence of Mr J. Pitcaithly, Ross Terrace. Mr Yolkins, who was eighty-two years of age. arrived in the Dominion in the early sixties from Hull, his native town. Shortly after landing in New Zealand he joined tho staff of tho Bank of Now Zealand at Lyttelton, and later, he was transferred to Hokitika. In 1874 bo retired and returned to Lyttelton, where he has resided ever since. He was well known for his generosity and kindness. Many old residents of the port attended his funeral, and the flag at the Borough Council Chambers wa» flown at half-mast yesterday.
