The-second round of the Christchurch Miniature Btflo Association's winter tournament wai tired last week, when some very interesting matches took place. Now Brighton, 524, heat i -o- 1 Crown Brewery, Wi, beat Working Men’s Club, 532; oydenhani 535, drew with "Ward’s Brewery.

The most interesting match of the week was between Ward’s Brewery and oydenham. The latter were onlv beaten by -two points, by Crown Breweiy in the lirst round, so they are having some very dose contests.

Both Aew Brighton and Crown Brewery won by tive., points. The ->rowh team is the only' one which has two wins. It was announced somff months ago that tho Defence Department had ordered Irom abroad a. quantity of Mark I. M.L.E. rifle barrels for use m ihe Dominion. A general defence head masters’ instruction issued b&i week states that the.first shipment of barrels and bolts has how come to hand. As soon us these have- been checked into store tho shipment will be distributed amongst the ordnance stores at Auckland, Palmerston North.-- Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Bulk orders tor the barrels must be forwarded by rifle clubs to the ordnance officer of the district to which the dubs belong, except in the case of rifle clubs adiuccnt to the eitv of Wellington, and clubs in the Nelson and ''West Coast groups, where, a saving in handling will be effected by procuring from Wellington instead of from the ordnance officers at Palmerston North and Christchurch respectively. In such, ca'ses orders will be sent direct to the chief ordnance officer. Buckle Street. Wellington. The “Sportsman ” (England) reports that an order issued in Portsmouth states that the Admiralty bar approved of naval officers and men being allowed to accompany the National Bliflc Association team representing the United Kingdom to Australia. in September. They n ill be ah lowed full pay while absent, but the Admiralty accepts no responsibility for the expenses of the tour, which', it is understood, will be borne bv the association.
