The flood is receding, but the sky is still overcast. AUCKLAND. June 7. Heavy rain caused landslips on the Alain Trunk lino, particularly between Tp Awanniiu and Otorohanga. On Saturday and Sunday heavy rain flooded the Wanganui and On gam a Rivers, the highest for four years. Both rivers are flooded from bank to hank. A fair amount of erosion lias taken place, but nothing serious. The. new traffic bridge and protection works on the Wanganui River stood the tes'< well. At the boat- landing the Ongaruo was nine feet above ordinary water mark, and it was doubtful if a river boat could go down to-day. Ib is reported that there is twenty-six feet of extra, water, and the houseboat is now anchored over the flower beds. WASHOUTS ON RAILWAY. [Per Press Association.] ROTOLuA, June 7. AVaslimits on tho railway near Matiiaku to Putanmi prevented trains leaving Rotorua- This morning, but it is expected to get away this afternoon. All the roads to the coast are interrupted. tlie mail cars having to return. Tho AVhakatano road is not expected to ho restored this week. Nine inches of rain fell at Rotorua in thirty-six hours. There is no damage to the town.
