The Canterbury Jockey Club has now finally decided upon the programme for the royal race meeting, to be held curing the visit of the Prince of Wales to Christchurch' The total amount of stakes to bo distributed in six races is £4B-50. As there has been much diversity of opinion, amongst the various trotting clubs and those interested in the sport, the committee has decided not to include a trotting event. The programme will therefore be ns follows: • WELCOME HURDLE HANDICAP, of 500 sovs; one mile and threo-ouar-tors. RENOWN HANDICAP. of 'ioO sovs; two miles and a half. MARLBOROUGH STAKES, of .1250 sovs, weight for ago; for two-year-olds and upwards; one mile. ROYAL HANDICAP, of 1250 sovs; one mile aad a half. CORNWALL HANDICAP (hack conditions), of 600 sovs; one mile and quarter. SANDRINGHAM WELTER HANDICAP, of 500 sovs; minimum weight, Ist 71b; one mile.
