SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
WHARKNUT. At the last meeting of the Wharcnui School Committee there were present:—Mr T. Habcrflcld (chairman), Mesdames White and Stanton, and Messrs AT Lean, Dates and Singleton (secretary), The. head master’s report showed the roll number at -10S, average attendance 313. Air Trevor Church had taken up his duties ns inipil-teachcr, and Miss Alison I’rebblc as probationer. Good progress was being made with the bazaar, a’ld £V was in hand towards the cost of a gate in memory of the ex-pupils who fell during the war. Pupils of the school had done well in the national scholars);!:: osaminaturns. Grace Staples securing the highest marks and earning the dux prize. Of the ex-pipulj Eric Milne won a junior national scholarship and four matriculated. Thirty olji pupils wore now taking higher educational courses" It was resolved to forward a congratulatory letter to the head master. It was decided to hold the annual school swimming sports on Saturday next. Messrs M’Lean and Bovd were appointed a visiting committee. The chairman reported having engaged the Choral Hall for the concert to be given on Easter Monday by the nnpils of Miss Mac Donald and Mr R. Mounsey in aid of the Grounds, Improvement Fund. The statement of accounts in connection with (he recent annual picnic was submitted. It was considered to bo the most enjovable function of the kind vet held, the attendance of parents being probably a record. Voles of thanks were accorded all helpers.
