It has been definitely decided that tho presentation of a farewell addresss to the Goveror-Geneial by the City Council will take place in the Council Chambers on Monday week, at noon. Tho metaphor “City Father,” applied to the Mayor of Christchurch is j apt to be carried too far. Dr Thacker received this morning a wire from a man who is presumably a Christchurch citizen; “Broke in Wellington. Wire £3.0 At a sitting of the Juvenile Court! to-day before Air S. E. Ai’Cartliy. S.AL, two small boys wore charged with breaking and entering the dwellinghouse of Roy Fitzgerald with intent to commit a crime. The cases were adjourned for a week. Three fully-laden picnic trains left Christchurch to-day, one, for Staircase Gully, one for Kai ipoi and ono for liinani. Iu addition smaller picnic parties wont, to Lyttelton and Kaiapoi by the ordinary trains. The Department, report that since February 1, when the stock season began, there him been a heavy increase in goods traffic, which is expected to continue well on into June. On tho invitation of the Christ church Domains .Board some forty members of local bodies who contribute to the board's funds made a visit of inspection to the gardens and parks this afternoon. The party were shown the works already carried out by the board, and those contemplated, including the sites of the proposed rock and bog gardens. At the conclusion of their inspection the party were entertained at afternoon tea by the Domains Board. This year's Domains Fete, to bo held on Saturday next, promises to provide a most attractive day’s outing- bhe object of the fete is to raise funds to assist with the upkeep and improvement of the city's public gardens ird parks. Christchurch is fortunate m the possession of a public garden which is a source of admiration to all visitors and a constant pleasure to the citizens themselves. Each year has seen some added improvements which is limited only to the amount of money at the disposal of the Domains Board. Afr Bidgood’s orchestra will give selections during the day, and altogether the function promises to be oust successful- Tickets for the grand gold r.cgpet art union are now on sale.
