[Per Press Association'.]

WELLINGTON, February 19The Government wishes it made as Tvidelv known as possible that local authorities and public organisations which desiro to present addresses of welcome to the Prince of Wales during his visit to New Zealand should have such addresses drafted immediately. Copies of drafts should bo sent without delay to the private secretary of the Hon Sir Francis Bell, Parliamentary Buildings, Wellington, in order that his Royal Highness may be enabled to prepare replies. *

THE PRINCE’S ITINERARY.

A WELLINGTON COMPLAINT,

fFnoM Ocr Correspondent.]

WELLINGTON,- February 19. . So far no official reply is available m connection with the Gisborne protest against being left out of the Prince’s itinerary. W'elliugton, also has a grievance, which is sarcastically ventilated by the “Dominion” thus:—"lt would be interesting to know who is really responsible for the itinerary and arrangements officially made for the Prince of Wales’s four of New Zealand. His Royal Ugliness has already intimated that it is not .so much the sights of the country he wishes' to see ns the peoand w'hcn the Prinoo refers to ‘ the people’ we- may ho quite sure ho uses the term in its broadest sense. The main object of the. visit is not to permit royalty to pay its respects to Christchurch social circles. Some quite erroneous idea of this sort seems to underlie the allotment of four wholo days to Christchurch, two to Auckland, two to Wellington, with a return visit of another wholo day and one day to Dunedin. Sir Francis Bell discourages the idea that the Prince, should be asked to lay foundation stones. This means that the Dominion will be deprived of any enduring permanent record of the Prince’s visit, a most unhappy resultSuch ceremonies need not be long and wearisome. They would afford excellent opportunities for the Prince to come m contact with the ' people ’ as distinct from, ‘ the ’ people, winch we take it is a desire very close to the heart of our democratic young Prince.”
