RED CROSS SOCIETY.

The Executive Committee of the Canterbury. Nelson, Alarlborough and Bestinnd Centre of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society met yesterday afternoon; present—Air •I. A. Fleshcr (president), Airs Wigrain and Messrs W, T. Robinson, E. Nordon, J. A. Flosher and O. T. J . Alpcrs. Apologies for absence were receiver) from Alcsdames Boyle, Smith and Williams, Airs Boyle expressing her sincere thanks lor the society's exptosston of sympathy in her illness. The central ofhee secretary, Wellington, forwarded a copy of a cablegram from the secretary-general of the League of Red Cross Societies, Geneva, in regard to the meeting to be hold at Geneva- in March, stating that it was proposed to discuss among other protilem., that of the. improvement of health and prevention of disease; also the possible means of inci easing the membership and resources of the National Re;!' Cross Societies and methods of organismg and using these for peace service. The New Zealand Society was asked to supply information as to its future plans. It was decided that the chairmen of the Red Cross and St .John Ambulance Committees should confer and that the result of their deliberations should ho sent to the Now Zealand Executive. ( Bngadier-Gencra 1 Al’Uavin, DirectorGeneral of Aledical Services, wrote expressing Ins appreciation of' the Red Cross Society’s action in providing comforts for patients in the various military hospitals and homes at Christmas. It was agreed, on the motion of Airs M igram, to send a remit to the council urging that in the case of total disablement Rod Cross funds may bo diverted to assist soldiers.

Motor trips for patients at the Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer. were approved, two trips costing 30s each, being agreed to.

It was decided to support a request from tho Auckland Centro in regard to the supplying of equipment for the Kamo Convalescent Home.
