ENGLISH WOMEN AND THEIR ACTIVITIES.
Miss Robertson, an English visitor, staying in Auckland, told a representative of the Auckland “ Star ” that women had come forward in numbers at Homo and were seeking for election on all public bodies, with the object of assisting to reorganise the nation. Women are going to take their place on the Advisory and Constructive Commission of the new Ministry of Health. The National Council of Women have done a great deal to place women on these now boards. Women have also taken their place on the Royal Commission on venereal disease, which was set up to inquire into the extent of the ravages of the disease, and the result has been tho formation of the National Council for combating the disease, which has brandies all over the country, with headquarters in London, Women are now lecturing on this subject, under tho Medipil and Scientific Publicity Committee. They lecture to groups of women, groups of teachers, and groups of girls in schools and factories, on what ought to be done to combat the disease. "Women are also on the RoyaJ Mousing Commission, and women are taking very important positions in connection with child welfare and maternity work. "Women have been appointed to lecture on tins subject, and medical women and fully trained nurses are sent into the lonely districts to speak to the women on matters concerning tlioir own health and the health of their .children. Tiie National Council of "Women inaugurated a travelling exhibition for child welfare, which went all over the country with medical women in charge, describing the effects of wrong feeding, wrong clothing, and hygienic furniture. Tho demonstration did a great deal o’f good, and it was eminently practical. Another thing the National Council of Women have accomplished! is that women of all classes are represented on, commissions. On tho Advisory Commission on housing there is a Labour woman member. Tho National Council has also taken up the subject of women in industry, and with very happy results.
