Striking details of disaffection in the Bunjaub are being published. Tho principal reasons for political agitation are alleged to be. tho high'prices of food and other necessaries, Mohammedan unrest, public, floggings i!,ud the Long intervals between arrest jjaid trial of agitators, hundreds of whom have been gaoled. Shootings have occurred in many places, especially Lahore, where the mob took tho city, tho Europeans being evacuated with difficulty. Eventually tho 43rd Brigade, supper toil by four aeroplanes, two carrying bombs, retook tho city. The tempfcr of the crowd was sullen and savage! The commissioners and military commanders reported that the shooting of Dyer at Amritsar hud an instimtaueous effect, disaffection rapidly (leclining. Tbe officials admit that public floggings have been numerous and admit that a priest and a Wedding party were flogged because tbej gathering numbered more than the 'jfcen permissible under martial law. Tho magistrate responsible for these floggings was dismissed. 1
