(Received December 21. 5.5 p.m.) PORT DARWIN, December 20. Before the Commission Judge Be van was further questioned at length regording the advances of Government money on mines in which ho was interested. Judge Ewing pointed out that witness had already admitted that the Administrator of the Territory made advances lo himself and others- Judgo Reran denied a. suggestion by Mr Barret, solicitor, that the representative of the Mines Department was jockeyed into relaxing the white labour regulations, and that lie would have lost his job if he had not given the ruling he did. Judge Be van said that he knew nothing about what the Alines Department did. Mr Barrett interjected: “Perhaps Dr Gilvulh looked after that.” Further drastic questioning related to Judge Sevan's administration of justice as Judge. One incident referred lo was the quashing of a whole jury panel for alleged irregularity.
